“The upper portion of the St. Johns River runs from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake George. Along its banks you can visit the metropolitan area of Jacksonville and the increasing popular Jacksonville Landing, or delight in the smaller communities of Green Cove Springs and Palatka. Popular boating stops include the Jacksonville Zoo, which is free by boat. Try Doctors Lake for water sports, Black Creek for nature enthusiast and for those that just want to be alone, you may want to take a trip to Crescent Lake by way of Dunn’s Creek. The river is very well marked and used by commercial vessels at times. The water is brackish and it is one of the few rivers that flows north.
